Spring Training Winding Down

Hi there everyone.  Sorry it has been such a long time since I have posted.  I went on spring break to Punta Cana.  Anyways the season is edging closer and the roster is taking shape.  I thought todays post will be what we have learned so far in spring training.

*Nova will be in the rotation.  Last time out her threw 6 no hit innings.  This essentially locked up his spot in the rotation
*Colon has looked better than Garcia.  Although I personally still want Garcia to win the job since he has both a track record of success and having bad numbers in spring training.
*Burnett has looked better........Whatever that means
*Injuries in the bullpen may open spots for some surprise canidates
*Eric Chavez is on the team and may play a huge role this year.

Thanks for reading and I will be making another post soon along with more podcasts for my class project.

Cervelli Hurt......Huge moment in Yankee history

Doesn't it always seem that something so small leads to something huge.  Look at when Aaron Boone got hurt in 2004, it changed the Yankees history forever.  Well Today it was announced that Franky Cervelli will miss 4 weeks with a broke bone in his foot.  While feel sorry for the kid this is kind of exciting for all Yankees fans.  Why?  Because Jesus himself now has the inside track to the Major League roster.  The top hitting prospect in baseball will have every opportunity to win the backup catchers job.  The only problem I see with this is that by not keeping him in the minors for two months he will become a free agent 1 year earlier.  Most smart GMs who simply take advantage of this and delay his promotion.  Not Cashman though.  Weird.

Anyway ten years from now we may look back on today as an important part of Yankee History.

The Top 10 points so far in the Spring

Hello there Yankee fans.  So we have only seen two spring training games so far, but its not to late to make some bold statements/predictions and other various comments.

This is what I have seen so far.  In no particular order.

1.  Brett Gardner is sooooo underrated.  Who cares if he doesn't have power?  How many players are that fast, play great defense and have a high high OBP?  None and definitely not Carl Crawford
2.  Bartolo Colon has no spot on this team
3. Dellin Betances will make it to the majors this year!
4. Jesus is ready, but he should play everday in the minors for at least a little
5.  We have a lot (and I mean a lot) of good relivers, but not very many trustworthy starters
6.  Joe is Joe, nothing ha changed
7.  I loved Dave but Larry as the pitching coach is really exciting
8.  Jeter may not be hitting leadoff for very long
9.  Posada can still hit
10.  Curtis is my wild card for team MVP this year

Thanks for reading!!!!

Can we still beleive Brian Cashman

Honestly I like Cashman.  I think hes a good GM and since he took over "full" control of baseball operations I think he has done an above average job.  But the one thing this bothers me is that he constantly contradicts himself in the media.  Just yesterday he said that the Yankees young prospect will not compete for the 4th and 5th starter spots.  Should we believe him?  Lets take a look at Brian Cashman's top  lies.

Bubba Crosby will be our opening day centerfielder (my personal favorite)
Joba is a starter, period.
Joba belongs in the Pen.
We will not resign Arod if he opts out.
We have no chance at signing Tex
We will not sign Soriano and give up our first round pick.

So at this point anything he says should really be taken with a grain of salt.  Some of these were not his fault however as George/Hank/Hal may have overruled him.

Yankees Report to Spring Training

Hey guy Happy Valentines day!

How exciting is it that baseball season is so close?  Well today we take another step towards opening day.  Today players have started reporting to camp.  The first player to show up?  David Robertson!

With the start of camp comes the question marks of spring training.  So I have taken it upon myself to come up with the 5 biggest question marks of spring training.  Today I will introduce number 1.

1)  Who is going to pitch after CC?  If only CC could pitch everyday!  Unfortunately behind CC is a whole bunch of ????????.  I know Hughes won 18 games last year, but I am still not sold that hes a number 2 pitcher.  He struggled in the second half and on any other team he would have been more of a 10-12 win pitcher.  Not exactly a great number 2 starter.  Burnett was terrible last year.  Take away the first month of the season and you probably have the worst pitcher in baseball.  At least hes not signed to a long huge contract......  Behind the three from last year you can basically take your pick on Nova (throws hard, but doesn't strike people out?), Colon (how is this guy still pitching?) and Garcia (if only it was 2003), don't forget about the killer B's (although I don't think they have a chance of making the team).  If it was up to me I would start with Garcia and Nova and have the killer B's in the minors ready to take over once one of them struggle.  Actually if it was up to me Id trade them for Liriano.

Hope you enjoyed this post.  Feel free to comment, number two will be posted later this week!

Yankees Roster If it was up to

At this point in the off season we are so close to spring training that the rosters are almost set.  Its always fun to come up with what you would do if you were in charge of making the roster.  Keep in mind this only includes players currently on Major or Minor league contracts with the Yankees.  Lets begin.

Rotation:

CC
Phil
Burnett
Garcia
Nova

Bullpen
Long man-Mitri
Joba
Drob
Feliciano
Logan
Soriano

Rivera

Catchers
Martin
Cervelli
Posada

Infield
Tex
Cano
Jeter
Arod
Nunez
Chavez

Outfield
Swish
Gardner
Granderson
Jones

As you can see out of all the terrible options for the 4th and 5th spot in the Yankees rotation I have elected to go with Freddy Garcia.  Why you may ask.  Well hes the best of the worst and while he throws in the mid 80's he is a smart pitcher and not a thrower cough Bartolo. As for only having 4 outfielders,  I would trust Nunez in the outfield in a second.  Lets put it this way, he can't be worse than Thames.  One thing that stands out, our bullpen is loaded!  If only we had another start that could pitch 200 innings wed be in great shape.  Unlike most people I trust Cashman.  Its a lot better that he didn't act stupidly after losing out of Lee and sign a terrible starter to a 3 year deal.  At least hes learned from his mistakes. Let the debates begin!
